The post Apple Day 2019 first appeared on Churcham Village Website.]]> A great time was had at churcham Apple day with over 60 people attending, over 30 gallons of juice were pressed, which included cider apples Dabnettes, Kingston Black, Harry Masters crab apples, mixed variety apples Blenheim Orange, Egremont Russet, Ashmead Kernel and Adams Pearmain, plus sacks of we could not identify. We also pressed a large quantity of Blakeney Red perry. We had a good spread of four different varieties of Apple cakes, artisan bread from the forest bake house, cheese home made pickles and chutney, not to mention cider and Perry from last years pressing. The weather was kind to us and a great day was had by all…..see you all next year.

Over 70 people from across the village enjoyed great weather,food and drink, and great conversation. We had a wide selection of vintage motor cars and motorcycles, a tractor and vintage hay cart made in the village over 100 years ago, and a very special Spitfire flypass! The skittles were again very popular. Special thanks to those who organised and set up the event. We look forward to setting a date and seeing you all next year.

I have spoken to the Highways Deptartmant and they have confirmed that there will be a road closure from the Highnam roundabout on the A48 from the 04 to 13 September, night time from 19.00 to 07.00Hrs. This coincides with the Oakle Street culvert closure. This work will be completed by the 15 September.

From the 04 September there will be a gate man on the A48 to allow access to properties. Can this information be put on the My Churcham website to inform residents?

Is it agreed the next My Churcham meeting will be 11 September at 10.00 hrs at Birdwood.?

We had a wide selection of vintage motor cars and motorcycles as well as a tractor and vintage hay cart made in the village over 100 years ago by Mr Brookes. The post Memorial Walk Update first appeared on Churcham Village Website.]]> The first memorial walk was held in Churcham on 20th May. Thank you all for a fantastic turnout of walkers. It was a great opportunity to pull together listings in memory of those who died and those who served in the two world wars from Churcham, Bulley and Birdwood. Many thanks to Jenny and John Eastwood for providing a display of people who served, Paul and Phyllis Charter for refreshments and John Moorby, Peter and Julie Ingram for walk surveys. Jenny’s ‘personal histories’ of the people who served brought us closer to the fallen and their sacrifice.

The walk was successful in highlighting the people who served as well as bringing the community together. It was a lovely walk with great views and a welcome and informative stop off at local glass artist Leigh Sladen for a cup of tea at her open studio. Next year’s walk is planned for 19th May 2018, a note for your diary. We hope to work towards placing a tangible memorial, possibly a bench where walkers or idlers can enjoy the fantastic views around Churcham whilst sharing a thought for those who have gone before. Thank you all so much for making the walk a resounding
success.
